The Roundhouse

I’ve just finished reading a book called “Many years a thief” by David Hutchison. It’s a novel, based on WA history, about the juvenile convicts sent to Fremantle between 1842 & 1851. Pretty good read considering I picked it up randomly from the library – trying to make a hasty retreat with the 3 kids before someone chucked a trantrum and we got kicked out :-).

So today we went to Fremantle for a bit of an outing and to get some stuff for the kids and I thought we’d check out some of the scenes from the book. It wasn’t until today that I realised when you drive down High St towards town, that if you lift your gaze you can see all the way to the tunnel and the roundhouse at the end of the street. Amazing.

So we went there and walked through the tunnel and up on the “mountain”, had a look in the Roundhouse and then strolled back toward town and checked out some of the old buildings back down High St.

It was fascinating.

The whole afternoon got me thinking…
There’s so much cool stuff to check out in Perth before we leave in 7 months! What have we been doing all this time?
And my husband & kids are really great fun to hang out with – lucky, we’ll be spending a lot of time together over the next few years.
And… Kathmandu winter sales rock.
