This will be a surprise to most of you, but yesterday I spent the day at my favourite place in the world!

Late last week my uncle passed away after a long battle with cancer so I left Lichinga a couple of weeks early so I could be there at his funeral. I’m so glad I made it, it was a pretty special day.

I’ve spent the rest of the week catching up with family and friends, meeting my new nieces and nephew and readjusting to life in Australia.

I’m heading off again tomorrow to meet Cam and the kids in Johannesburg as we’d planned to take a break on our way home next week and I don’t want to miss out on that!

It’s been a slightly strange but wonderful experience. I’ve learned how to use my credit card again, survived a trip to the Apple store in the city and reacquainted myself with sliced bread.

While all of that has been great, by far the best part has been seeing all my loved ones who I have missed so dearly and who I’ve realised, have missed me. I think it really hit home when Georgia proclaimed in her biggest, proudest voice to one of her friends as they were going into class the other day “I got my aunty back!”

For the many that I’ve missed this week, we’ll all be back on July 12th and we’re really looking forward to seeing you all!

  1. Hi Kath,

Wow! Had no idea you were home. So good you could be at your uncle’s funeral and wonderful that you could catch up with some family members and friends.

What happened about the visas? We weren’t sure you could leave the country without having them renewed. Does this pose problems for getting back in?

Have a wonderful break with your family before you hit home shores again.

    Love,

    Elaine

  2. Dear Cam & Kath Thanks for the news. I send my condolences in the loss of your uncle. Such a blessing you could be here. I presume that all means that your Dires came through eventually? I trust that now it will be the beginning of a wonderful ‘home assignment’, giving you the chance to do ALL the things you’ve been dreaming about for three years. God bless each one of you. Looking forward to seeing you in September. Love, Fay at Craigie
